MEMBERS AND MEMBERSHIP

7. NUMBER AND APPLICATION

There is no limitation on the number of members of the Association.

7.1   Whether or not a person may become a member of the Association is within the sole and
absolute discretion of the Directors and their decision shall be final and binding.
7.2   The Directors shall be entitled to refuse any application without explanation.
7.3   Membership shall commence upon:
7.3.1   Written confirmation by the Association of the Directors’ approval;
7.3.2   Payment of the prescribed entrance and annual membership fees in such manner as prescribed
by the Association from time to time; and
7.3.3   Written acceptance of the Association's code of conduct.
7.3.4   Written confirmation of Membership of the SAOA.
7.3.5   Letter of undertaking to uphold CPD requirements as described in the CPD policy.
7.4   The Association shall maintain a register of members of the Association.

8. MEMBERSHIP CATEGORIES

The members of the Association shall consist of voting and non-voting members.

8.1

 

VOTING MEMBERS

8.1.1   Full Practicing Members: Ocularists practicing within the borders of Southern Africa.
8.1.2   Employed Members: Ocularists employed by a Full Member within the borders of Southern
Africa
8.1.3   Honorary Members: Persons who are elected honorary members by the Directorate for
exemplary services to the profession and/or association for a period of 1 (one) year.
8.1.4   Honorary Life Members: Persons who, in recognition of exceptional and distinguished services
rendered to the Association are elected honorary life members by the Directorate.
8.1.5   Honorary Life Presidents: Past Presidents who in recognition of exceptional and distinguished
services rendered to the Association are elected honorary life presidents by the Directorate.
     

8.2

 

NON-VOTING MEMBERS

8.2.1   Non-practising Members: Ocularists who have ceased to practice or have not practiced within
the borders of Southern Africa within a period of two years.
8.2.2   Associate Members: Interested Optometrists, interested Ophthalmologists and Ocularistryrelated
professionals registered with the Council.
8.2.3   Associate International Members: interested Ocularists practicing beyond the borders of
Southern Africa.
8.2.4   Honorary Associate Members: Associate Members who are elected honorary members by the
Directorate for exemplary services to the profession and/or association for a period of 1 (one)
year.
8.2.5   Honorary Life Associate Members: Affiliate Members who, in recognition of exceptional and
distinguished services rendered to the Association are elected honorary life members by the
Directorate.
8.2.6   Student Members: students in Ocularistry at a teaching institution accredited with OASA.
8.2.7   Affiliate Members: Ocularistry-related professionals not registered with the Council, practice
assistants and individual representatives of the optical supply industry.
